HARRISBURG — A Pennsylvania legislator plans to reintroduce a bill that would legalize marijuana in the commonwealth.
Rep. Daylin Leach, a Democrat from the Philadelphia suburbs, is scheduled to hold a press conference this afternoon in Harrisburg to discuss his legislation.
Supporters say the state could generate much-needed revenue by legalizing and taxing the drug in a manner similar to alcohol.
Leach has said marijuana should also be a legal medical treatment for patients suffering terminal illnesses.
Representatives of the medical and law enforcement communities are expected to speak on behalf of the legislation.
Leach sponsored one of two medical-marijuana bills that died in committee at the end of last year.
The states of Washington and Colorado legalized marijuana to different degrees by popular vote in the November general election.
